Axe Cliff was founded in 1894.
Axe Cliff Golf Club is a splendid course designed by legendary golf course architect, James Braid. It is one of the oldest courses in Devon having been founded in 1894.
On January 30th 1894 at the Clarence Hotel in Seaton, thirteen gentlemen unanimously resolved to form a Golf Club. Dr Pattinson was voted into the chair and Samuel Sanders Stephens Esq. was appointed President. The entrance fee and the annual subscription were fixed at one guinea (10/6 for ladies). In 1895 the Rev. R.A.Brackenbury proposed that a bar be established in the clubhouse. The rest, as they say, is History!
